Updated: Mar 10, 2022

Born in Vienna, Jessica Hausner studied directing at the Film Academy and began working on her first shorts, including Inter-View, which ushered her into the Festival spotlight in 1999 as part of the Cinéfondation School Films Selection.

Following three appearances in Un Certain Regard (Lovely Rita in 2001, Hotel in 2004, Amour Fou in 2014), she made her in Competition début in 2019 with her first English-language film Little Joe, which won the Best Actress Award thanks to Emily Beecham. The film was a Festival sensation, and sold in over 20 countries around the world.

In 2021, Jessica further deepened her ties with the Festival by agreeing to join the international feature film jury alongside Mati Diop, Mylène Farmer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent, Song Kang-ho, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Tahar Rahim and Spike Lee in an historic edition that saw Julia Ducournau walk away with the Palme d’Or.
